Using Animation and Storytelling To Explain How Important Data Is
In any organisation, staying protected and connected is fundamental for efficient operations. In a large organisation that spans the globe, it is particularly important. However, the IT Department is often overlooked and undervalued, and our client wanted to get their employees onboard. To help Tell It Better we told their story through the metaphor of a road.
The opportunity
Our audience was a global business comprising thousands of people, spanning cultures, time zones, ages, and appetites towards technology. The information had to be understandable to the technophobes, without being patronising to the technophiles.
To get people passionate about your subject, you have to really make them feel something. It has to be emotive. That’s not always possible, and with a subject matter like IT Networks, it was going to be an uphill battle. However, if you show people how it relates to their world, particularly the benefits, and give them the “why”, more often than not, you can persuade them to your point of view.
What we did
We needed to highlight the audience how this affected their day to day, and why it was important to them, and to the company. A simple metaphor was at the heart of this explainer video.
An IT Network is akin to a road, from carrying data to carrying traffic, from connecting people virtually to connecting people physically.
Given the explainer film was centred around a road, we then used agricultural illustrations and environments to make the film more relevant to our audience. The script was written in three clear chapters to enable a series of shorter videos that each had their own subject, explanation, why and call to action neatly packaged within.
The outcome
The IT Department had a tool to demonstrate their absolute necessity to the smooth and efficient running of the organisation. The department saw an increase in positive sentiment and a raised awareness of their role within the wider community.
The smaller videos were used in monthly meetings, newsletters and on their internal platform Microsoft Viva Engage
