Training videos help employees and new-starters upskill their learning and improve in their roles. Effective training delivers huge ROI - so how can you make your training as useful, and memorable as possible? Animated training videos.

Interactive Learning Modules

Interactive Learning Modules

For people to be effectively trained, they need to be engaged during the learning process. Learners who are engaged and participating will get far better results. You can also get immediate feedback, address and correct mistakes, and allow personalised learning paths.

Microlearning Animations

Microlearning Animations

Finding time to complete training courses is difficult for employees. By using microlearning and short courses, learning can be fitted into busy schedules. It becomes agile to the employee, being taken on-the-go, scheduled around meetings, and used as a quick refresher on topics.

Custom Character Animation

Custom Character Animation

When you can tell someone a story, or make them feel a connection or emotion, it makes it far more memorable, and will be retained for longer. Using characters within your training unlock this. Character driven animations can also show company culture, diversity and brand identity.

Process Visualisation Animations

Process Visualisation Animations

Processes can often be complex and lengthy. By using simple animations that explain the detail and nuances, you get a few benefits. Not only are they easier to understand and therefore remember, they are quicker to learn. This leads to higher levels of consistency and ultimately safety.

The process: How we work

When creating an animated training video there are no limits - you can make anything. So, how do you make sure you create the right thing? And also deliver it on budget and on time? We’re unique in our space, with a certified, tried-and-tested, ISO 9001 accredited explainer video process.

1. Brief & Strategy

Getting the brief and strategy right for a training video is particularly important. Knowing your who, why, what, where, when and how is vital for us to be able to deliver successfully. Different Learning Management Systems have different requirements, you might have a unique training requirement that needs particular attention, or specific content needs.

2. Production

Production is a series of creative tasks that we produce and then present back to you. Each step is designed to be a small step forward, each building on the last. We’ll guide you through our rigorous process from pre-production tasks like style setting and script writing, right through to post-production tasks like editing and sound design.

3. Review & Revisions

You're an expert in your business and we’re the experts in training videos. It’s vital for us to work together to create the best possible outcome. We'll have regularly scheduled (usually weekly) meetings where we present work, gain immediate feedback and discuss next steps. Move us forward without adding lots of time to your already busy schedule.

4. Final Delivery

Delivery is different for every project due depending on what's outlined at the start. We might be working in multiple languages, creating a series of micro-learning content or adapting material to different departments. Whether it’s one video or a suite, once the final polish is added, everything is packaged up and handed over to you for launch.

FAQ: Training Animation

What are animated training videos?

Put simply, they are training videos that are animated. You may choose to use animation in your training videos for a number of advantages they offer. Firstly, using anything video based is far more informative than static images or text. Secondly, with animation you have the opportunity and ability to create something highly branded and consistent within your brand guidelines. Thirdly, you can explain, explore and train in ways that might be hard to do with traditional video. For instance, explaining the inside of how a component works, or how to assemble a series of components. This can easily be done with animation.

How much does an animated training video cost?

We don’t offer a single, standardised price for anything that we do. With animation we can create anything, and we’re only limited by your budget. So, we create a bespoke proposal that has 2-3 prices that enable you to do slightly different solutions to your brief. Generally, our work is influenced by a few main factors. Firstly, how complex is the brief? Are we needing to use a highly detailed 3D model of a specific combustion engine, or are we creating a brief explainer of the fire evacuation policy? Secondly, what is the scope of work? Are there many different versions needed, or a single deliverable. Thirdly, how quickly is the work needed? Do we need to assemble a larger team to shorten the production window.

If you have something in mind, we’ll be able to give you a ballpark estimate pretty quickly. Please don’t hesitate to pick up the phone or drop us a message.

What is the average length of an effective animated training video?

Training videos are unlike other forms of video. For example, training videos are often required as part of a job's duties and obligations, or required by company culture. Whereas social media advertising is neither of these, and has very different target audiences and requirements. Training videos tend to run longer than most other forms of animated video. We’ve worked on training videos as short as just a few minutes, right through to 30 minutes or even 45 minutes.

How often should companies update their training videos?

There isn’t a rule for how often training videos should be updated. If the video has become obsolete due to an outdated process, or outdated content then it should be updated. Many companies seek to update their training videos as they feel the content has aged - which can be typical of live-action training videos. Because of this lack of ageing and ability to be updated easily, animated training videos offer a significant advantage.

Are animated training videos accessible for employees with disabilities?

We can use specific design skills to create more accessible content. This might be something simple like subtitling for people with hearing difficulties. We can also use specific colours to help accommodate sight-based disabilities. We can create pretty much anything with animation, so if you have some specific requirements, please don’t hesitate to drop us an email or give us a call.

How do you measure the ROI of animated training videos?

Training is often delivered through online platforms or learning management systems (LMS). These tools have built in reporting metrics and dashboards to help understand how effective your training videos are. The specific ROI is going to be entirely unique to your project or your company, but we can work with you to identify how to measure success, and what ROI looks like for you.

What are the best practices for distributing animated training videos to employees?

Typically if an organisation is investing in animated training videos, there is a back of house system that handles their training courses - typically referred to as Learning Management Systems or LMS. Training videos can also be shared via company-wide emails, posting to internal social media tools like Workplace, or delivered as part of in-person workshops and training seminars. Best practices for distributing training videos would be to ensure there’s some way to track who’s seen the videos, who’s completed the training, and how effectively they have learnt via the training videos.

How do animated training videos compare to gamification in employee learning?

Gamification and animated training videos are two different strategies to help improve employee learning. Gamification is more interactive, incentivising users to participate and rewarding them based on performance. Gamification also appeals to users who learn best from active participation and repetition. However, gamification is often more expensive due to complex integrations, use of specific software and tools and on-going management and maintenance.

Animated training videos help employees learn through storytelling and are best geared towards visual or auditory learners. They break down complex information in a way that gamification wouldn’t. They’re also generally quicker and easier to implement.

What industries benefit most from using animated training videos?

Any organisation with a complex process, highly technical information or a regulatory requirement for consistent training would benefit from animated training videos. We know it works particularly well for industries with complex procedures or processes, regulation or compliance needs, or explanation of complex hardware and software. Any organisation with a need for security and safety, whether that's online or in-person, also benefits greatly from animated training.

How do animated training videos support compliance training?

With compliance training it is vital that employees receive the same information in a standardised way. You can run through scenario-based training that puts employees in real-life situations to help develop their responses on how to practically apply or meet regulatory requirements. Compliance training and regulatory information is often extremely complex, so animated training videos can break down this information in easier to understand sequences, and use visuals, sound and voice to help explain it. Studies have shown that people who learn from videos rather than text will retain the information longer.

What's the difference between 2D and 3D animation in training videos?

2D animation is often stylised and isn’t made to look realistic. Because of this, it can be quicker and faster to create. The animations are perfect for creating branded videos that align with the guidelines or match the companies look and feel. It is simple to work with other materials that may be needed for training like flow charts, graphs, infographics etc.

3D animation is best used for realism and explaining or demonstrating real products or machinery. It is more time consuming to set up, but once created, assets can be expanded and explored easily. You can also use 3D software for simulations of forces like fluids, gravity, heat and more.
